Ethics

Screaming O is not a reputable company. Last year, they violated the trust of many sex bloggers at a conference, their ingredients have been questionable – mostly unsafe, and they avoid taking the blame. Dangerous Lily explains it better than I, so here are their blog posts:

So, why am I reviewing a Screaming O toy?

I don’t support Screaming O, and will never buy from them. Peepshow Toys gave me a list to pick from, and I thought this one looked different. So, quite simply, I forgot. I have a limited about of brain space, and with so much going on in the world, and the industries I work in my brain forgot about Screaming O.

However, if I’ve learnt anything from the adult industry, it’s that terrible companies aside, people will still use or buy from less-than-reputable companies. My aim in reviewing some of the toys from questionable companies is to provide an honest review, inform you why the company is questionable, and look at the toy in terms of accessibility.

Not everyone buying sex toys knows about the actions of every company they buy from. I want you to be safe and feel mentally okay with the company you’re buying from. I know the lure of cheap sex toys. Hell, that’s how I started my sex toy collection. As soon as I learnt what was going on, I changed it all up. I also know how overwhelming it feels to buy sex toys, and that sometimes you settle for the first okay-looking one you find.

I hope that makes sense, If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments.

Opinions in Use

The packaging is the standard, aka a pain to open. There also seems an excess of it – I’m pretty judgemental towards boxes that are unnecessarily bigger than they need to be. As soon as it was out of the box, my first impression was the smell. The smell has, without a doubt overshadowed the whole toy for me. I feel pretty negative towards this one anyway, but I will try to be balanced in my observations.

With that in mind, my vagina wants to run screaming from the Toone Rechargeable Silicone Vibrator with Flexible Ears, and my clit, definitely doesn’t want to go anywhere near it, but for sex science, it happened. Granted, it happened with two layers of clothing between toy and skin.

When charging the toy, you will need to give it a bit of a push to slip it through the cover, waterproof covers are a bit tough, but slow and steady will do it!

When I used the Toone Rechargeable Silicone Vibrator with Flexible Ears, I found the vibrations deep and rumbly. The variety of 20 different settings is impressive and is something I’ve not seen in other toys. The 10 vibration strengths allow a gradual warm-up to the highest vibration, and the patterns are a good mix of long, short, and the good old ‘gradual increase’. If it weren’t for the company (and smell …), I’d almost be pleased. I like the concept, but my body wasn’t a fan of the execution, even though I gave it a few goes.

Now, normally the fact a toy is made out of silicone would be a positive stand-out feature. Not this time. I own many silicone toys, and none of them smells quite like this one. The feel of the toy is off too; it feels a bit like a pencil eraser. Whilst Screaming O claims the Toone Rechargeable Silicone Vibrator with Flexible Ears is made from ‘certified body-safe True Silicone’ – what does that mean? And what stops them from putting anything they want on the packaging? The questionable history of Screaming O makes me wonder, and doubt them, and because of this, I subjected the toy to the flame test!

In a nutshell, the flame test shows whether or not a toy is made from true medical-grade/premium silicone. If the toy is made from medical grade/premium silicone, it will not melt or burn under the flame. If it isn’t, the toy acts a bit like an oil wick.

Flame Test

Many of you will be pleased to know that I was not the one handling an open flame.

The Toone Rechargeable Silicone Vibrator with Flexible Ears didn’t catch the light and left a surface-level black smudge that could easily be washed off by water. So, the flame test judges it to be silicone.

Positives of the Toone

  • Light Up Button: A positive, and a negative. The button on the Toone Rechargeable Silicone Vibrator with Flexible Ears lights up! I’m in favour of this because it’s really difficult to tell where the button is, so at least I have an idea during play.
  • Waterproof Charging Port: If you wanted to go for a swim, you could easily take this little toy with you.
  • The Shape: I like the shape of the toy. The ball is a good idea for the body of the toy as it allows for better grip, and it’s far more comfortable to hold than a standard bullet vibrator. The shape and the place of the separate motors in the ‘ears’ also mean that the ball doesn’t transfer as much of the vibration to your hands.

Negatives of the Toone

  • The Smell: This is the stand-out feature (good or bad) of the Toone Rechargeable Silicone Vibrator with Flexible Ears. Every time I touch it, my hands always smell like chemicals, and if I leave it unwrapped for a few hours the smell permeates into the air. The smell is so overwhelmingly bad, almost like some of the jelly toys I used to own. For anyone with chemical sensitivity (and unsurprisingly I’m one of those people), stay far, far away.  Granted, maybe it’s just a fluke, no one else seems to have mentioned the smell, but whatever is in the Toone Rechargeable Silicone Vibrator with Flexible Ears is horrid, and has given me a few headaches. In fact, when not out for reviewing purposes I’ve kept it wrapped up, and away from all of my other toys.
  • The ‘Flexible’ Ears: The ears are flexible, in that they can move. But, they’re a tad hard to move, and the last thing I want is for my clit to feel like it’s in a vice. I don’t see the point of the moving ears, to get them to stay in an open position you’d need to keep your fingers between them or else they spring back.
  • Button: There seems enough space on the toy for two buttons, especially considering just how many functions there are. If I accidentally click the button during play, and I go off function number 19, I have to cycle through them all to get there again. Considering my last review was a bullet vibrator with two buttons, this is a letdown.
  • Button Light: Whilst this is positive, this is also a negative. The button light flashes when on a pattern, some of the patterns are quite quick, and it flashes a lot. Please be mindful if you have light sensitivity or epilepsy.

Accessibility

Quite honestly, most of the toys I’ve reviewed on this blog, I can recommend in some capacity. This is not one of those toys. Save your money, and buy something better – from a trusted company.

Positives:

  • Button with light.
  • Rechargeable
  • Waterproof
  • Blunt, not pointy.
  • Body-safe silicone.

Negatives:

  • The overpowering smell caused multiple headaches.
  • Ears take effort to move and spring back.
  • One button for 20 modes.
  • Ethics of the company.
  • Button light flashes on patterns.

Conclusion

The Toone Rechargeable Silicone Vibrator with Flexible Ears will be going in my ‘toy box of shame’. The toy box is for toys that I’m not going to get rid of, but toys that I might pull out on occasion to teach people. That’s it. I won’t be using this one again or touching it without gloves.

I can’t in good conscience recommend the Toone Rechargeable Silicone Vibrator with Flexible Ears. Whilst it does have some useful positive features, the company is questionable, and the smell is too overpowering.

I was given this toy to review by the lovely people over at Peepshow Toys in exchange for an honest, and unbiased review.
