Eroticon 2017
It’s been just over a week since I travelled to London so I could attend both Eroticon and screening from UKAP. A week of bumbling around trying to not talk about sex with everyone I meet. And also, after a week of recovery – Eroticon drop hit me hard. When my body figured out it was time to stop moving at a breakneck pace, it got ill.
To kick off this post, I have a confession to make. Last week was my first gathering of like minds. Unfortunately, the UK doesn’t have much in the way of cam model meetings or get-togethers, so I’ve pretty much lived in my own bubble. Eroticon changed all that, and I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience meeting like-minded people. The whole weekend was simply phenomenal. Massive thank you to the sponsors who helped the event come together.
So I don’t ramble too much about the weekend, I’m going to jump on the Erotcion meme train from Jenny with a list of 10 Things I Took Home from Eroticon.
Fisting
There’s a phenomenon that once you’ve learned a word, your brain becomes more aware of it, and thus you seem to hear it everywhere – it’s called the The Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon. This seemed to happen with fisting over the weekend. Four of the talks I attended mentioned it, it got brought up during a burlesque show by the amazing artist – Rubyyy Jones, and then it followed me home with my partner talking about it out of the blue.
Amazing swag.
In the collection, we have a little butt plug magnet from Godemiche, my new favourite mug from GOTN, a handmade card from Luke and Jack, a mug and ‘get fucking creative’ notebook from Fuck.com, an absolutely lovely Hot Octopuss t-shirt, notebook from Sinful Press, a pen from The Rabbit Company, a red bag of condoms and lube from Freedoms Shop, and an Eroticon sticker and bag.
Not pictured: chocolate from The Ruby Glow, Kayla Lords little card and condom package, and a mini erotica book from Sexy Little Pages.
Girl On The Next mug!
With a slogan so wonderful, it deserves a second mention in this post. The GOTN mug really is a treasure, and it has such an amazing (and true) slogan: ‘no one does what you do quite like you’. I’ve now designated it as my rum mug – that’s generally how you know I really love something.
A Godemiche creation.
Naturally, in a ruby red colour! It’s gorgeous, I’m a tad in love with it, and it’s currently sitting on my mantlepiece next to my new Ceramic Pleasures acquisitions. There will definitely be pictures of it soon.
A burning desire to learn more about branding.
I straddled two sessions on Sunday, ‘How to use your blog to educate’ and Gryphon’s workshop on branding.
Oh my.
Those that have spoken to me about fetish and kink, know that I’m just a little bit of a Sadist. And as soon as he started talking about all the wonderful ways you can brand to a person, that was it. I was hooked. I think I came away from the session with a bit of a Sadists’ high – if that’s possible.
Experiencing, and learning more about branding is on my 2017 bucket list.
A new cane.
I have quite the collection of impact play toys, someday I’ll take a picture of them all, but thanks to Kink Craft I have a new one to add to my collection. Throughout both days of the conference they ran workshops where you could make your own toys, and making your own cane was the workshop I attended. I did start to make mine, however, I had to leave early to get lunch, but the wonderful people who run Kink Craft finished it off for me, and I was able to collect it later that day.
Three new Ceramic Pleasures toys.
And they’re so beautiful. I can’t wait to try them out. Ceramic is not something I’ve played around with before, so I’m really curious how it will feel in comparison to glass, and metal.
New connections.
Because of Eroticon, I’ve met some wonderfully opened minded humans. Some I spoke to at length, and some I only met briefly in passing. For fear of forgetting someone I won’t name names, but everyone I spoke to was absolutely lovely.
Inspiration
My brain hasn’t stopped churning out ideas for new blog posts, articles, or things I could do in the future. It’s gotten to the point where I now have 2 A4 pages of ideas, so that should keep me busy for a while!
Knowing that I can walk into a place where I don’t know anyone, and socialise.
I had major reservations about Eroticon. I knew no one, I’d not been blogging long, and I’m extremely introverted. Plus, my brain throws about a lot of ‘worst-case scenarios and has a tendency to be extremely anxious from time to time.
But, I did it. I went to Eroticon, met people, socialized, and came away from it with new friends, and connections. Nothing bad happened, the end of the world wasn’t nigh, and no one questioned why I was there … it went well. I’d spent so long expecting it to go badly, that I was pleasantly surprised when it went smoothly.
I can’t quite convey with words just how welcoming the convention was. Molly, Girl on the Net, and DomSigns did an absolutely amazing job, and should all be proud of themselves for putting on such a top-notch event.
I really can’t wait until next year!
It was great to meet you at Eroticon. I know what you mean about being able to go into somewhere you don’t know anyone and be able to just talk to people. Eroticon is special for that.
Excellent round up
